LIFE SIZE STREET WITH VICTORIAN SHOPS
The General Store
Here’s a great shop! So much to see. He sells everything including candles, paraffin, cleaning materials, polish, hot water bottles, baccy, sweets, carpet beaters, pots and pans and even cider.
The bicycle was used for a home
delivery service, an idea that
supermarkets are rediscovering.
The Apothecary
In the window you will see three large glass
carboys. Such symbols were commonly
used to represent the trade of individual
shops because so few people could
actually read the sign
above the door.
The Toy Shop
Toys in Victorian times were only available for
the rich children. Poor children would make
do with wooden toys made
by their father or perhaps
a piece of rope or washing
line used as a skipping
rope.
